Globally, the urban population is growing: 54% of the world’s population now lives in cities - up from 34% in 1960. And the urban population is growing - two-thirds of the global population - more than 6 billion people - will live in urban areas by 2050.As the urban population grows so the number of mega-cities - cities with more than 10 million inhabitants - is increasing. In 1990 there were just 10 mega-cities worldwide. There are 28 today and there will be 41 by 2030. Our cities are getting bigger.
